IS DEEP CANYON TENNIS CLUB RIGHT UP YOUR ALLEY?

If active and energetic living in a hugely active Palm Desert tennis, Pickleball, recreational and social community lights you up -- then you should read more.

How about it?

Are you someone who wakes up everyday looking forward to getting into action?

It could be that your tennis doubles game is waiting at the Pro Shop where you'll battle it out on one of 12 beautifully maintained courts. Or maybe you'll want to jump right into the daily gathering of 6 courts full of Pickleball players. Or maybe you'll join a spirited group heading off on a "medium level" 5-mile mountain hike. Or maybe you'll saddle-up for a bicycle trek with a stop for a tasty lunch. Or, maybe there'll be some rewarding exercise with the yoga group or the aerobic swimmers

After lunch, many like to gather for Bridge or to engage in some card or board games. Book Club and Quilting might attract some very talented folks, too.

Lots of people join right in to these enjoyable activities, but you won't find me there.

I'd rather be off playing golf with some of my Deep Canyon friends enjoying our resident special $48 rate at world-class Desert Willow Golf Resort. (Non-residents pay $180 a round, it's that good a course.) Or maybe I'll be playing an afternoon game of tennis or enjoy watching some friends in feisty tennis league play action.

Heck, if you don't feel like doing any of this, you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing day starting with coffee, newspaper, computer or even taking a walk on the 1 1/4 mile loop inside the property. For my money, Palm Desert is the very best place to be from November to April of any location in continental United States.

Speaking of family, my wife and I have lived at Deep Canyon Tennis Club for going on 25 years now. Quite frankly, the friendships we've made here over the years do feel like family.

We've even taken to calling this place our Deep Canyon "VILLAGE," because it's what this community means to us.

This village-feel is so evident when we have evening social gatherings in the clubhouse and we know most of the 100 to 150 or more people attending by name.

And, clubhouse gatherings like this are frequent. Every Wednesday during the season from November to the end of April, we have "Wednesday Afternoon Social Tennis Doubles" is followed by pizza, hamburgers, bratwurst or Mexican Food. . .along with beer, wine and soda -- all for only "10 Bucks a Head." Go and beat that some where. And, most nights like this there is music played and informal singing around the piano, too.

Of course there are Season Opening Parties, New Year's Eve parties, parties for the sake of parties and Season Closing Parties to boot.

People who arrive here not knowing a soul soon make friends. New friendships seem to happen in a heartbeat around here.

Examples of people who have found a home at Deep Canyon Tennis Club are rampant.

There's one fellow I know, I'll call him Harry. He and his wife bought here in the late 1990s. Our friendship started the first day we played doubles together. He's a retired engineer and he volunteers his expertise all over this property. He's been on the board of directors and handles all the electronics for an annual Cabaret show presented here by residents every year. He and his wife invited us to visit them in Oregon and we did. We are still friends after that.

There's another couple that's been here a few years now. She runs the morning yoga and more. He's introduced many of us to his passion of Cricket in a recreational way. Each summer up in Washington they host a huge picnic at their property for all Deep Canyon friends. Hundreds of folks have enjoyed this over the years. Yes, many seasonal folks here hook up elsewhere in the summer months for extended visits. Some even travel together.

There's another couple who just loves the 3 Bedroom condo I urged them to buy. They were thinking of offering on a townhouse that I didn't think was right for them. I said, go take one more look at the 3 Bedroom. They bought it and are continuously grateful to be owners here at Deep Canyon in the condo that is perfect for them and their two doggies.

The list of pretty darn happy that they own here folks goes on and on.

One very cool thing I've noticed about people here is that many of the older folks don't show or feel their age and the youngsters in the 50s who are buying here now are catching the energy.

I've known one fellow here since we moved in 25 years back. He's now 93 and looking and acting younger than when I met him. Folks in their 60s and 70s run the courts like "kids." The infusion of younger folks who are still working or only nearing retirement provides a perfect blend with those who already have that hard-earned "R" (for retired) behind their name.

Right now, is a perfect time to get into ownership here at Deep Canyon Tennis Club. There are currently some 15 condos for sale on property ranging from $169,900 for a 2 Bedroom and 2.5 Bath townhouse and topping out for a 3 Bedroom and 2 Bath ground-level condo for $245,000. Right now there is a special deal on a 2 Bedroom and 1.5 bath model in the $130,000s.

Yes, these condos are located in a Home Owners Association community and for me this has lots of advantages and benefits.

Like. . .I don't need to own a lawnmower (or a snow shovel either for that matter). The 35 acres of grounds are all maintained for me, as is my building including the roof. We have a 24-hour security person at the front gate which is comforting to me. Tennis, Pickleball and the Workout Room is all included in a monthly HOA fee that is worth every cent in my book.

Oh yes, this also includes 12 pools and 4 Spas dotted throughout the community.

Our reasonable monthly HOA fee includes water, sewer, trash removal and basic cable TV in each condo, too.

Deep Canyon Tennis Club is quite a package.

I invite you to Contact me to and learn more about our condos and our community.

Call me or send me an email message and I'll be happy to tell you everything I know about Deep Canyon Tennis Club Ownership.

Just maybe we'll neighbors, enjoy some sports or just have a friendly chat over a slice of pizza one day soon.
