PICKLEBALL PLAY IS GOING STRONG!
You may have heard that the game of Pickleball is taking the country by storm.
Right now, it's laid claim to the title of "Fastest Growing Sport" in the United States and possibly Canada. And, it's happening right here at Deep Canyon, too.
If Pickleball is your game, Deep Canyon might be just the venue you're looking to find. The club currently has 6 dedicated Pickleball courts.
Organized action is fast and furious at least 4 mornings per week. It's not unusual to have 30 or more players engaging in the action and enjoying active social exchange as well.
Experienced players are very welcoming to the new and uninitiated. New arrivals are quickly shown around the smaller badminton-sized court with a 34 inch net. A plastic whiffle ball about the size of a softball is struck with a medium-sized frying pan-type paddle. Within minutes, nubies quickly join in a game with hand-holding veterans. Laughter and chatter and shouts of "good shot" soon ring out.
Like on the tennis courts, doubles Pickleball is the norm. This makes it a perfect venture for anyone who can't run as well as they used to, move as quickly as they like or reach all corners of a larger tennis court. Players of all ages -- yes in their ninties, too -- find they can enjoy an active game.
And, for those who want to play it to the max, the action can be fast and furious the when the top players square off against each other. It's fun to watch and even more fun to play.
Yes, the Pickleball players have parties, too. Sometimes this includes inviting members of neighboring clubs to come over for a social game or to travel to other area clubs as well for mixers. A growing number of local tounaments for players of all levels are flourishing area wide.
